This can be DIY fixed so easily without much tools (all you need is a light, and hands).I just fixed it today and the cost of switch was $50. Nissan Altima Brake Switch

Googled solutions range from brake relay switch, to intelligent key, to a faulty steering lock control unit. After doing some research it was evident that other Nissan owners were having a similar problem and Nissan had extended their warranty on this part. Now again same deal. It appeared to be OK.

First check to see if you have brake lights. Son gets stuck outside and finally gets it home.
