Guest I too have the problem with my 55-200 lens not working on autofocus. The D40 has the same controls as a $5,000 Nikon D3, just that you have to stop and piddle with menus instead of having direct controls. If you want to (I never have), press MENU > Custom Setting Menu > 02 Focus Mode and select away. It keeps on over exposing and struggles very badly in low light.
